Alex had a farrier appointment Thursday so Dalton and I went over a little early so he could ride her some more. It was hotter than we realized though and we were all cranky (especially Alex!) so we didn't do much. I put the bridle on her but she was annoying me with her non-stop open mouthed chewing on the bit so I took it back off and we went with a halter and lead again. I really think I'm going to find one of those new bitless bridles that I've heard so much about.
He got on her with just the halter and lead but even with me walking in front of her she really didn't want to move unless I actually had hold of her, it was just too darn hot! So I led her around the pasture a couple of times and we called it quits. She did good though, there wasn't even a flinch when Dalton got on and she only turned to nibble his toes a few times!
We left and did a few errands and then came back in time to meet the farrier. I had Dalton get on her once more just so Jesse could see. He just shook his head and laughed about how mellow she is. He got her hooves done really fast. Alex seemed much more mellow without Sally there bouncing around although she still tried to chew on his ears while he's working on her front hooves. *G*
Once he was done we decided we'd been out in the heat long enough so we headed for home and air conditioning!
That evening we went to the fair and spent a nice couple of hours stuffing ourselves and wandering around the vendor booths, craft displays, and horse stalls. We got to pet a lot of really great horses but there wasn't a single one I'd trade for Alex!
I didn't take any photos at the fair but there are a few new photos and videos of Dalton on Alex in the album labeled Second ride 8-20-09.
