The laziest horse in the world...

Life has been crazy since the beginning of the year but I'm finally getting around to posting an update!Alex went into training on March 29th. The trainer picked her up and was warned ahead of time that Alex hadn't been trailered much so there might be some issues. Wouldn't you know, it's was miserably cold and raining and Alex picked that day to be a complete pain to work with. We tried everything we could thing of and finally after an hour and a half we got her to put one foot into the…See More

A gift that keeps on giving...

I hope this post finds you well and that you had a very Merry Christmas! After a very hectic week (I actually made a spur of the moment stop into a car lot on my way home from the post office Wednesday and less than 2 hours later drove home in a new used car!) today was wonderful. It was one of the nicest Christmas days I can remember. We had a wonderful time relaxing, laughing, and creating new memories to go with the old.We always go overboard at Christmas, always have, always will. This year…See More

Fish sticks?

The weather here turned bitter cold a few days ago and Alex picked night before last to unplug her stock tank heater. By the time we noticed it last night the tank had a VERY thick layer of ice and poor Alex thought she was dying of thirst! We ran some water on top of the ice and she guzzled away and we got the tank heater plugged back in so it could start thawing from the bottom up.It wasn't really that big of a deal until an hour or so later I remembered that we still had 5 goldfish living in…See More

The horse in this video remind of the Psymbol horses so much that I had to share. This is exactly the reaction Alex would have too!

The birds...

There really hasn't been much going on lately so I haven't posted but this was too strange not to share.Yesterday morning Alex was invaded! A huge flock of what we're guessing to be at least 1000 Starlings landed in the pasture. Alex wasn't quite sure what to make of this but she did her part in trying to chase them away. She didn't succeed, they would fly and then land again. This went on for a while and then the birds all left. We saw them fly over again yesterday evening but they didn't…See More

For some reason I can't get my photos to upload here. You can see them all at http://www.pbase.com/sunsetmeadowlark/first_ride Some are of Alex and I, many are just of the areas we've been riding in and the different things we've seen.

All grown up 3...

Saturday morning was another sunny and gorgeous day so I figured I'd get in one more ride before I had to go back to work Monday.

I got the trailer all hooked up but wasn't sure what to expect from Alex on loading. I was hoping the previous session had stuck and she wouldn't give me problems but Alex can be almost as stubborn as me so it was hard to say what she'd do.

I brought her up to the trailer and asked her to get in. I was…

All grown up 2...

The next Sunday I loaded Alex up and off we went. I wasn't really sure where there were good riding trails but decided to check out an area west of town. When I got there I saw there was another trailer with a couple of horses tied to it. As I got out the people from that setup were walking towards me so I asked where the good trails were. They said they had no idea because they had never ridden out there either but they had seen a trail that looked…

All grown up...

Time sure flies. Doesn't seem like it could be possible that the shaggy little Alex I adopted just over two years ago is now a full blown riding horse. She spent her 60 days at the trainers and did absolutely amazing.

During the 60 days the trainer really put a lot of miles on her. Nearly every horse (and person) has a trigger, that one thing that really sets them off. The trainer tried and tried to find out what Alex's was but never did really find it, the only thing that…
